St. Nicholas Priory also known as The Benedictine Priory of St.Nicholas was found in Exeter in 1087. When the termination of the monasteries occurred, the chapter house range as well as the church was demolished but the domestic buildings were left unharmed. The parts of the monastery which survived were south and west ranges out of which the south range is presently is owned by Exeter City Council as a museum. St.Nicholas Priory has been used as a museum since 1916. Though at present it has been furnished as an Elizabethan town house, the place was the home of the wealthy Hurst family in the year 1602. With replica furniture, the priory is painted with bright colors of Elizabethan era. It also gives a depiction of the life of Tudors from different artifacts out of Exeter’s collection.
