In 1900 the Harrogate Theater got opened in the aid of British soldiers fighting in South Africa the Boer War. This theater was designed by Frank Tugwell an architect who has designed the Savoy Theatre in London. Earlier, this famous tourist attraction in Harrogate was known as The Grand Opera House. The attraction is well facilitated with fire proof curtains and other modern safety features including sprinkler systems and fire extinguishers. The theater boasted of its interior decorations and hot and cold water running in the dressing rooms. Glided plasterwork moldings are installed in the theater, therefore try and giving it a different look. Up to early 1930’s this theater was operated as a touring venue, however with time the popularity grew even more. The theater reopened in the year 1958. During this time the seating capacity was reduced to 481 people from 800. Through seventies and eighties the theater continued to run. Harrogate Theater attract good audiences today therefore, it has become a major tourist attraction in Harrogate city. Varied programs are scheduled for tourists in a thriving youth theater.
