The Devon Record Office works with the responsibility to collect as well as preserve the historical records of Devon. It also works with the aim of making this collection available to those who are willing to study them. This task is shared by three record offices. The Devon Record Office situated at Exeter consists of all sorts of records belonging to the history and facts related to the county of Devon, Exeter and East, mid and South Devon including Torbay. The records include the facts of parishes, and a number of individuals, families, businesses, estates, chapels, societies and schools. It also possesses the clerical records of the Diocese of Exeter and administers the Exeter Cathedral Archives inside the Cloister Library. Since the year 1998, the Devon Record Office has been offering an archive service for not only Devon County Council but also Torbay Council under the collaboration between the two authorities.
