This is Chester’s one of the best known historical monuments, the largest uncovered amphitheater in the UK. This amphitheater is a high priority in the policy of the Chester City Council and is designated as the English Heritage Beacon Project. The Chester Amphitheater project is scheduled to run for three years; however, the objectives of the first two years have already been established. This is a Grade I listed building and it dates back from the first century. Primarily the amphitheater was for military drills and training, but was also used for various combat sports, wrestling, classical boxing etc. It is based at the fortress of ‘Deva’ two successive amphitheaters were found and the two of them differed from each other and from the rest of the amphitheaters in Britain. The first evidence of the amphitheater was discovered in 1929.
