Opened in 1899, Cheltenham Art Gallery and Museum has an impressive collection of jewellery, ceramics, fine arts, furniture and exhibits from local history of Cheltenham in its heart. It also houses art and crafts collection including plasterwork, metalwork, pottery, leatherwork, silevr, textiles and archives. The museum is housed on Clarence Street in a Regency building and is designed by William Henry Knight. Offering free admission, the museum has been successfully hosting special exhibitions which not only invites residents of Cheltenham but also the tourists from nearby cities and abroad. The museum is admired a lot by the lovers of Arts and Culture and possesses a unique collection of textiles, furniture, ceramics, and carvings. It has also achieved a designated status for the same. Prince Royal was the one to open the major extension of the building in September 1989 where the main entrance of the museum lies today.
