The British Empire Museum in Bristol reveals the history of the British Empire and how the British colonial rule affected the rest of the world. The museum got opened in the year 2002 designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. Museum features a prosperous publications department that produces books on the history. Unlike other national museums in Britain, the British Empire Museum is not funded by public, however, it’s owned and controlled by a charitable trust. An admission charge is applied. It is nominated as the European Museum of the year; however, some of the main galleries of the museum have been closed, due to the relocation of the museum to the capital city of London. However, after closing the move did not take place and it’s been announced that the move will not be completed until 2012. Special events and exhibitions are constantly hosted in the museum and it also allows various educational programs for children so that they can have a much closer look at the history of the British Empire.
