The Bill Douglas Center for the History of Cinema and Popular Culture is not only a public museum but also an academic research center. It possesses one of the finest collections of prints, artifacts, ephemera and books relating to history and pre-history of cinema in Britain. The cebter is located on the Streatham Campus in Exeter and was found in 1994. It opened its doors for public in the autumn season of 1997 as a part of the celebrations made in Britain for the centenary of cinema. The center acquired the pride of being a permanent facility, unlike all other aspects in the celebrations, thereby encouraging the ongoing enjoyment and understanding of the most popular art form of the twentieth century and its precursors. There is something for every visitor in the center ranging from magic lanterns to Marilyn Monroe postcards, from shadow puppets to Shirley Temple dolls and much more. The place is also well surrounded by a number of Exeter hotels for the travelers to have a comfortable stay in the area.
