Beltane Fire Festival is celebrated each year on Calton Hill during the night prior to May Day. This alternative pagan fest of fire beginning with the darkness on 30th April is attended by more than 20,000 visitors in order to greet Spring. This unique festivity in Edinburgh alone was often threatened with closure. But eventually in 2006 an agreement was reached where in the organizers, the emergency services, the locals, tourists’ organizations and the city council made it a ticketed event. The festival is accompanied by colorful drummers, theater, fire tricks, puppets and costumes. Almost all the travelers staying at Edinburgh would never like to miss this amazing festival of fire. It is a unique experience to witness the extravagant resurgence of the vintage Celtic Fertility Festival in the heart of the capital of Scotland accompanied by the exclusive procession of drumming, revelry and fire.
